  22. 1. Programm description
  23.  
  24. Random MIDI Player (RMP)  is useful utility for playing MIDI
  25. files  (.MID, .RMI).  It is very easy to use. You don't have
  26. to create  any MIDI collection.  Just select  directory tree
  27. with your  MIDI files,  RMP then searches  through directory 
  28. tree and loads  all available MIDI files.  Then it starts to 
  29. play  them either randomly or  in sequence according to your
  30. configuration.

  32. You can choose  if you want to search through subdirectories
  33. and if you want to start  playing  immediately  after end of
  34. search procedure.
  35.  
  36. You can easily select  out good  MIDI files.  Just configure
  37. "Save directory"  option  to  your  favorite MIDI  directory
  38. and if you listen to good MIDI file press button "Save file"
  39. and currently playing  MIDI file will be copied to your MIDI
  40. directory.  You can fasten this operation by selecting "Play
  41. just intro." feature in predefined intro length.

  43. What more?  If you  are bored  with repeating  the same MIDI
  44. files again and again you can disable "Allow song repetition"
  45. feature and you will not here any song twice.  After playing
  46. all available  MIDI files  in predefined  order RMP will ask
  47. you either  select another directory  or play all MIDI files
  48. again.  It is up to you.  With this feature I'm able to play
  49. my  collection  of  almost 10000 MIDI  files  (500 hours) in 
  50. almost 500 subdirectories  without getting bored of repeated
  51. songs.

  55. 2. New features and changes for version 1.1
  56.  
  57. a) Windows progress bar  was replaced with slider control so
  58.    user can change current song  position  like  in  windows
  59.    media player. Ticks are set up each 10 seconds.
  60. b) Displaying of song filename and path was  changed  to  be
  61.    able always display song filename even if whole path does
  62.    not fit in line length.
  63.    For example song path
  64.    "C:\Windows\Media\Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.rmi"
  65.    is shorten to path
  66.    "C:\...\Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.rmi"
  67. c) Corrected bug  in  random  generator  setup.  Songs  were
  68.    played  always  in  the  same   "random"   order.  Random
  69.    generator is now intialized with  time  in  seconds  from
  70.    1. 1. 1980 and time from  windows  startup.  This  should
  71.    result in correct random song generation. (I hope.)
  72. d) Corrected  problems with "Resume" function in Windows NT.
  73.    For some unknown reason Windows NT does  not  accept  MCI
  74.    command MCI_RESUME. I resolved this  problem  by  calling 
  75.    MCI_PLAY instead of MCI_RESUME.
  76. e) Double click on any song in the list will play  this song
  77.    even if this song  was  already  played  and you have not
  78.    checked "Allow song repetition" check box.
  79. f) Litlle bit changed hidden feature in about box.

  83. 3. Windows NT limitations
  84.  
  85. Application works OK in  Windows 95,  but if you want to use
  86. Windows NT,  you have  to start  RMP with starting direcotry
  87. set  to  your  MIDI  files  directory  tree,  because during
  88. programm  execution  you are  not able  to use Browse folder
  89. function  which  is  implemented  in  Windows 95 only. Other
  90. possibility is  to use  Windows NT 4.0  or  Windows NT  with
  91. Shell technology preview from Microsoft.  Or simply register
  92. (pay $10 US)  and  I will  send you fully functional version
  93. which works OK under Windows NT without any limitations.

  97. 4. Tips for Random MIDI Player use
  98.  
  99. a) Create a shortcut for  Random MIDI Player  with  start-up
  100.    folder  ("Start in" property)  set  to  your  MIDI  files 
  101.    directory tree. Then put this shortcut to yout Windows
  102.    StartUp folder (group). Remember to check "Search folders
  103.    recursively" option. All songs in directory tree  will be
  104.    played after Windows start.
  105. b) Have you tried to press CTRL+SHIFT  and  double-click  on
  106.    the big icon in about dialog box? Not? Try it.

  110. 5. Shareware notice

  112. This software  is provided  as shareware.  If you  find this
  113. program useful,  please send me $10 US (or equivalent in any
  114. other currency).  I  will  send you  the  newest  version of
  115. Random  MIDI  Player  without   annoying  shareware  notice.
  116. Shareware notice appears each 20 minutes.
